Most of the famers don’t have electricity at their homes because it’s a rural area. Therefore they need to go to a trading centre or to town to charge their phones, but often it is not affordable for them. Bio Gardens established a Solar Phone Charging Kiosk where the community members can charge their phones for the low fee of 200 Uganda Shillings instead of 400 at other places. We use a solar panel to produce the electricity to charge a battery where people can charge their phones. So the power we use comes from a sustainable source, of which we have a lot around here in Kasese, also in the rural areas: the sun.
The money which we get from the kiosk is reinvested in Bio Gardens and its staff as well as in other projects such as the herbal medicine or the handcrafts project.
